Story

Ok!! Here's me revisiting one of my favourite pieces of SID music from back in the day.

The more observant amongst you will have spotted 2 OL3 remixes released by me on the same day. I've been playing with the tune a lot lately and

I felt the need in this version to stick to some of the 'OLD' rules & restrictions that were there when I originally wrote it on the C64 back in '86.

Although, I did break a few too…

Rules Broken: 1). There are more than 3 voices, (obviously). 2). Just a couple of licks & stings are polyphonic

The rest is written using monophonic voices. I wanted to recapture some of the original with single voices bouncing all over the place. So. the main lead-voice is SID (all 3 voices at once with a little post fx). Same goes for some of the other voices and there's even some trilling in there.

Hope you like it….

Very cool!
Starts a little "knight rider" and then just lets rip. Nice instrumentation - great energy :)
Now both are awesome - one question - can you do Denarius next - an awesome tune? Your kicking butt at the moment
I totally felt like LaLa - "apprehensive" at first listen - and after reading the explanation it's like I have a new set of ears. :D
Love both your new remixes both brill cannot choose which I like most!!
The tunes is not one of my favourites but it was my first 64 tune back in the days, with Basket Master
Sounds great, really nice fast paced feel to the track. Great work :)
Now, this just blew my mind back to the days in one heck of an excellent way! Sounds so fat and fast!
Sorry I can't be objective, this melody always gets me into the mood ----> :) Nice remix all the way!
It's a little thin, like those old '97 MIDIs! Aside from that, quite nice to listen to!
Yep!! Nailed it! Kept the feel of the original and added to it. But I suppose if anyone should get this right, you should
Top tune!
Wow! Remix by the original composer. Fat, fast and does keep the old sid feel. Great remix
Man, nostalgia trip time! Back to the days when we had to wait MINUTES for a game to load. And back luck if you died within 5 seconds when the game actually started - lol. A great nod back to a time when tape was the media of choice....
I really like it, but the original SID is actually meatier and more fulfilling. Easily in the Top 10 best ever SIDs for me.
Great remix although it sounded a bit general midi-sh to me the first time (drumtracks). But a pleasure to listen to!
Love the pace, makes for a really good listen
Straight, clean mix with some odd instrumentation that feels awkward.
Like this remix, maybe a bit standardized
Cool track.
Best version of this classic loading tune ever.

It's always a pleasure to hear remixes done by the authors of the original SIDs, and this one is no exception.

I'll be honest, I was a little apprehensive when listening to this remix the first time, but once I've read Peter's comments on this remix it suddenly made sense to me: the monophonic instruments, the arpeggios, the analogue warmth - all of it.

Oh, and I absolutely love the drums on this one!

Well done, sir, and thank you for this gem!

Like those before me, (LaLa and Iconoclast), I didn't get this the first or second time through. There's a lot going on in this remix and you don't hear it all at once. Now, I can't stop listening to see if there's more in there I still haven't heard. I wasn't old enough to have heard the original playing on a C64 and discovered it about 5 years ago. Love the original and Love this!

I actually prefer this punchy synth version of the two… it's crisp and clean, and feels modern and yet retro, and you can't argue with the sound of the SID chip. Great inclusion, well mixed. Sometimes even an orchestra can't compete with the beautiful sounds the original SID produces!
